Program Description
This presentation will describe the Families OverComing Under Stress (FOCUS), a brief, evidence-based, family intervention designed to enhance resilience and mitigate psychological distress in active duty military and veteran families, children, and couples. FOCUS has been used extensively to support the active duty military population since 2008 and is a DoD Program of Record. We will examine the theoretical foundations of the model, its core components and its current application and use with the veteran population. Outcome data derived from its extensive use with military families will also be presented.

Gabriela Alejos, ASW serves as a Family Trainer at the UCLA/VA Veteran Family Wellness Center (VFWC). Gabriela earned her Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Southern California, with a concentration in children, youth and families. Gabriela has worked closely with military and veteran families, including the UCLA FOCUS for Early Childhood research study. She has worked at the UCLA/VA VFWC since June 2017, and works with individuals, couples, families and groups.
