Description

This training provides military and civilian mental health providers with information about key elements of the assessment process when treating military and Veteran couples.  The components of an initial assessment will be reviewed with a specific focus on how aspects of military culture impact their relationships.  In addition, a variety of assessment tools will be presented including self-report measures and genograms.

 

Learning Objectives:

Specify two assessment tools that can be used with military couples.

Explore the assessment of safety concerns.

Determine the components of a comprehensive clinical interview with military couples.

 

Platform and System Requirements:

This course will be presented via Adobe Connect teleconferencing software. Adobe Connect is browser-based, however, an add-in may need to be installed before attending. Participants can test their computer's capabilities by clicking here (or visiting http://admin.adobeconnect.com/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm) We recommend those using Internet connections on government or military locations test their ability to load Adobe Connect in advance of the event to ensure there are no technical difficulties. Microphones and webcams are not necessary, but you will need a computer with working speakers or headphones. If you encounter connection difficulties when using your computer, the Adobe Connect app is also available for iOS and Android devices.

 

Continuing Education Details:

All participants who register, attend and complete a short post-training evaluation/assessment will be eligible to receive two free CEs. CEs will be provided through PESI, Inc. For more information about the continuing education credits offered for this event please check the ad statement here.

Laura Cho-Stutler, Psy.D. . is a clinical psychologist and a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Trainer with the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Located in Hawaii, Dr. Cho-Stutler advocates for evidence-based mental health treatment utilization and develops toolkits designed to expand access to and availability of evidence-based psychotherapies. She provides consultation and training to clinical leadership and staff in support of evidence-based practices and identifies best practices.

Before this current position with the CDP, clinical psychologist for Tele-behavioral Health Psychology Surge Support at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) where she delivered assessment and psychotherapy for Service Members and their family members. She previously held a position with the CDP as the Deployment Behavioral Health Psychologist at TAMC as a subject matter expert, consultant, faculty member and assistant training director to an APA-approved pre-doctoral psychology internship program. Dr. Cho-Stutler also operated a private practice and was a behavior health consultant for a primary care clinic, Patient Centered Medical Home at Schofield.

Dr. Cho-Stutler earned a master’s and doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Argosy University/Honolulu. She completed a clinical psychology internship at the Portland VA Medical Center. She also finished a post-doctoral fellowship in health psychology at a rural health center. Her professional interests include the treatment of trauma-related mental health conditions, mindfulness, and provider self-care.
