Description

I Serve 2:  A Pocketcard for Healthcare Providers Caring for Military Children was developed by APRNs and researchers who care for military children.  This presentation will provide guidance for utilization in clinical practice to better identify physical, psychological, and behavioral health risk factors and co-morbidities in military connected children.  In addition, the I Serve 2: A Pocketcard for Healthcare Providers Caring for Military Children provides providers with community resources aimed at supporting military connected children and families. The pocketcard will serve as a valuable resource for all providers who care for military connected children and families. 


 

Target Audience: For behavioral health/healthcare providers who treat military personnel, veterans, and their families.

 

Instructional Level: Introductory

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will be able to:

  • Differentiate physical, psychological, and behavior health risks and co-morbidities of military-connected children.

  • Utilize the I Serve 2:  A Pocketcard for Healthcare Providers Caring for Military Children in clinical practice to identify and screen military connected children.

  • Appraise community resources available to civilian healthcare providers caring for military connected children.  

 

This activity is approved for 1.5 continuing education credits (CEs)

Dr Catherine Ling is a nurse scientist, family nurse practitioner, and certified nurse educator focusing on improving access to quality, primary care with an emphasis on military families.  She maintains her 27-year FNP career as a Community Advocate focusing on Wellness programs at the Lillian Wald Nursing Center in Baltimore. She is a Fellow within the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and in the American Academy of Nursing.  She is currently the FNP track coordinator at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.


Alicia Gill Rossiter's Profile

Dr. Alicia Gill Rossiter is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Veteran to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at the University of South Florida College of Nursing.  She also serves as the College of Nursing Military Liaison.  Dr. Rossiter retired after 25 years of service in the United States Army Nurse Corps on active duty and later in the United States Air Force Reserve.  Her military experience has the been the impetus behind her research and scholarly work which includes women veterans and military sexual trauma, the effects of parental military service on military connected children, and transitioning needs of medics and corpsmen into the professional role of nursing.  She is a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and in the American Academy of Nursing and is currently serving as the Co-Chair of the Military/Veteran Health Expert Panel.
