Description

This talk reviews the historical journey of women veterans with an emphasis on their unique
experiences and challenges. A brief overview of the impact of military service on women veterans’
current mental health and functioning will be presented. An overview of the Women Health Sciences
Division of the National Center for PTSD research portfolio will be offered with an emphasis on ongoing
research being conducted in an effort to continue to understand the unique needs of women veterans
and determine strategies and interventions to best meet those needs.

 

Learning Objectives:
Following the training, attendees will be able to:


1. Analyze the unique path of women’s military service and the impact of that service on mental health.
2. Develop a plan to incorporate effective strategies to address the unique needs of women Veterans into clinical care.

American Psychological Association Sponsor Approval:

The Center for Deployment Psychology is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Center for Deployment Psychology maintains responsibility for this program and its content. 

Association of Social Work Boards Approved Continuing Education Provider Approval:

The Center for Deployment Psychology, #1761, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.  Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers.  State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.  The Center for Deployment Psychology maintains responsibility for this course.  ACE provider approval period: May 19, 2022 – May 19, 2025.  Social workers completing this course receive 1.5 Live, Interactive Webinar continuing education credits.

New York State Education Department’s State Board for Psychology Provider Approval:

The Center for Deployment Psychology is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Psychology as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychologists (#PSY-0178).

Dr. Galovski is a licensed clinical psychologist, the Director of the Women’s Health Sciences Division of the National Center for PTSD, and a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine.  Over the last two decades, Dr. Galovski has been a national trainer of Cognitive Processing Therapy, has trained over 1000 clinicians in both the VA and community mental health clinics, and has treated or supervised the treatment of 100s of PTSD cases.  She is interested in exploring the effects of exposure to traumatic events and continuing the development of psychological interventions designed to treat PTSD and comorbid psychiatric disorders. She has conducted multiple federally funded clinical trials (NIH, VA, SAMHSA, DoD) and has published the results of that work in over 100 peer-reviewed papers, 20+ chapters and is currently writing her third book. Recently, Dr. Galovski has developed, and is the Director of, a national network of peer-led support groups for women Veterans (Women Veterans Network: WoVeN).
