Program Description
Today, growing numbers of “deployed-in-place” Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaisance (ISR) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) personnel are exposed to the stresses of remote combat and graphic media exploitation on a daily basis, the effects of which are not well understood. While qualitatively distinct from ground combat, early research has found that exposure to remote combat and graphic media can be related to increased symptoms of posttraumatic stress, moral injury, and other negative potential psychological outcomes. Topics of this presentation include rates of exposure, responses to measures of PTSD and moral injury, and review of potential treatment and mitigation strategies.

Lt Col (Dr) Ogle is the wing psychologist for the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Wing, headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, VA. He has a doctorate in clinical psychologist from the University of Detroit Mercy as well as completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in combat operations and aviation psychology from the University of West Florida. He has led interdisciplinary teams in service of clinical care, combat stress mitigation, high risk training safety, and mission effectiveness in six assignments and two deployments.
